Berlin, NH — On October 10, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified of a rental UTV crash around Brook Road Trail in Jericho Mountain State Park in Berlin. A Conservation Officer responded to investigate the incident.
Based on the on-scene investigation, the operator, identified as 45-year-old Moacir Henrique of Malden, MA, was riding recklessly in large group of rental UTVs operators. As the group approached a sharp bend in the trail at a high rate of speed, Henrique failed to negotiate the turn and struck a large grouping of rocks which sent the UTV approximately 20 feet into the air before it landed in a brook. The crash resulted in significant damage to the rental machine. No members of the riding party sustained injuries.
Due to the technical nature of the recovery and the extent of the damage, personnel from Trail Tow UTV Recovery and Northeast ATV Rentals spent several hours at the scene working to remove the damaged machine from the brook.
The investigation identified reckless operation and unreasonable speed as the primary contributing factors in the crash. Henrique was subsequently charged with operating an OHRV in a manner that endangered persons or property, as well as unreasonable speed.
New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers remind OHRV operators that trails are shared spaces used by riders, families, and other members of the outdoor recreation community. Reckless operation, particularly when riding in groups, can put operators and others at risk and is a contributing factor in many crashes.
Operators are urged to ride within their abilities, maintain a safe speed, and operate their vehicles responsibly with due regard for trail conditions and the safety of others. Responsible riding helps protect everyone who enjoys New Hampshire’s trails.
