Franconia, NH – At approximately 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019, Conservation Officers were notified that a 26-year-old male rock climber identified as Shawn Bunnell of Concord, New Hampshire, had been involved in a rock climbing accident and had suffered injuries to his lower leg. Due to the extent of his injuries, Bunnell called for assistance off the Greenleaf Trail in Franconia Notch State Park. With the assistance of climbing companions, Bunnell crawled down the trail until he was met by members of Franconia Fire and Rescue, volunteers from the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team, and Conservation Officers from New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Bunnell was then carried off the trail, arriving at the parking lot at 5:35 p.m. Bunnell refused transportation to the hospital by ambulance and would seek medical attention on his own.

Hikers and Climbers are reminded to always be prepared for the unexpected and bring proper gear for all situations.
