Albany, NH – On Friday, July 10, 2026, at 6:55 p.m., NH Fish and Game was notified about an injured hiker on the Champney Falls Trail on Mt. Chocorua in Albany. The hiker was identified as Paul Carvalho, 24, from Lincoln, Rhode Island. He was hiking with a companion and slipped on a wet rock in the area of Champney Falls, injuring his ankle. He continued hiking for approximately 3 hours until he couldn’t continue due to his injury. He was unable to walk or bear weight on his injured ankle, so he called 911 for assistance.
Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded along with members of the Lakes Region Search and Rescue Team (LRSAR). Carvalho was located approximately 3.2 miles from the trailhead parking area. He was assessed and stabilized and carried down the trail to the parking area arriving at 2:15 a.m. on July 11. He was transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for evaluation and treatment.
