Harts Location, NH – On Monday, June 1, 2026, shortly after 10:30 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a man had gone missing in the area of the Sawyer Rock picnic area. The man was Wayne Hendrickson, 64, of Auburn, MA.
Along with Fish and Game Conservation Officers, members of the Bartlett Police Department Carroll County Sheriffs Office, and a volunteer drone operator responded. The initial overnight search failed to locate Hendrickson.
Additional searchers from New England K9 and the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team arrived after daylight on Tuesday, June 2. Shortly before 11:00 a.m., Hendrickson found his way back to the road and was uninjured.
New England K9 and the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team are highly skilled volunteer search and rescue organizations whose members work hard to maintain the skills and equipment necessary to carry out rescues across the state. Anyone can donate to NE K9 or UVWRT through the New Hampshire Outdoor Council at www.nhoutdoorcouncil.org. Donations are fully tax deductible. Outdoor enthusiasts are also encouraged to purchase a Hike Safe card at www.wildnh.com/safe. The card helps support Fish and Game search and rescue activities.
