Pittsburg, NH – On Thursday, February 27, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., two New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officer’s were notified of a snowmobile crash on Back Lake in Pittsburg. An emergency response was initiated by Pittsburg Fire and Rescue Department, Pittsburg Police Department, and 45th Parallel EMS.
The 60-year-old operator was identified as Thomas Borges of Asshonet, MA. Borges was operating his snowmobile across Back Lake at a high rate of speed when he hit a snow ridge, causing him to be ejected from the snowmobile. The snowmobile rolled over multiple times and sustained substantial damage.
Borges was brought off the ice to Tall Timber Lodge where he self-evaluated his injuries. About an hour after the crash, Borges continued to feel worse. At this point, he and his riding group called 911 so that Borges could be medically evaluated. Rescue responders ultimately transported Borges to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook for further evaluation of his injuries.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing but, scene evaluation and witness statements indicate speed and inattention to be the leading factors.
