Sargent’s Purchase, NH – On Sunday, October 20 at approximately 3:00 p.m., the NH Fish and Game Department was notified of an injured hiker on the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail in Sargent’s Purchase, approximately 2.5 miles up from the trailhead parking lot. Officials relayed that Rosemarie Asikis, 39, of Haverhill, MA, was hiking down the trail when she slipped and fell and suffered a lower leg injury. Unable to bear weight on the injured leg, a call to 911 was made.
Volunteer Search and Rescue crews from Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue (AVSAR), Pemigewassett Valley Search and Rescue (PEMI SAR), and Mountain Rescue Services (MRS) responded to the call, along with several Conservation Officers.
Rescuers hiked up from the Base Station Cog Parking lot, placed Asikis into a rescue litter, and carried her down to the trailhead parking lot arriving at 9:10 p.m. Asikis declined an ambulance and instead chose to seek medical treatment on her own.
Asikis was prepared for the hike and possessed a Hike Safe card. Outdoor enthusiasts are also encouraged to purchase a Hike Safe card at www.wildnh.com/safe. The card helps support Fish and Game search and rescue activities. For safe hiking tips and a list of essential gear, visit hikesafe.com.
