Albany, NH – New Hampshire Conservation Officers responded to a call for assistance on the Champney Falls Trail in Albany on Saturday, July 27. Susan Clement, age 57, from Falmouth, ME, was hiking with her husband on the Champney Falls Trail to the summit of Mt Chocorua. At 10:50 a.m., approximately 0.2 miles from the summit, Clement fell and injured her wrist. Her husband called 911 for assistance. Hikers in the area also responded and splinted her wrist. Two hikers along with a Conservation Officer and member of the US Forest Service assisted her back down the trail. They arrived at the trailhead parking area at 3:45 p.m.
The public is encouraged to help support search and rescue activities in the state by purchasing a Hike Safe card. New Hampshire Fish and Game also reminds hikers to prepare themselves before venturing out into the wilderness, including packing the ten essential items: map, compass, warm clothing, extra food and water, headlamp, fire starter, first aid kit, whistle, rain/wind jackets and pants, and a knife.
