Franconia, NH – At 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, Conservation Officers from New Hampshire Fish and Game were made aware of an injured hiker on the Old Bridle Path in Franconia. A call had come into NH 911 reporting a 44-year-old female who had fallen and suffered a lower-leg injury and could no longer continue without assistance. Rescuers from the Pemi Valley Search and Rescue Team and Conservation Officers from New Hampshire Fish and Game responded to the trailhead.

The first rescuers reached the injured hiker at 9:30 p.m., who was about 2 miles from the trailhead of the Old Bridle Path. They identified the injured hiker as Erin Duggin of St. Louis, Missouri. Due to the nature of Duggin’s injury, she was packaged into a rescue litter, with the carryout commencing at 9:50 p.m. The rescue party safely navigated the 2 miles to the trailhead and arrived just before midnight. Duggin was taken by family members to Littleton Regional Hospital for evaluation of her injury.

Duggin had hiked the Falling Waters/Bridle Path Loop with family and were descending when Duggin slipped on a wet rock, causing a lower leg injury. The family was well prepared for a day hike and Good Samaritan hikers escorted the family to the trailhead while the rescue took place. Please visit www.hikesafe.com for more information.
