Franconia, NH – On Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 3:05 p.m., NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers were notified that a Garmin inReach had been activated on Franconia Ridge near Mount Lincoln. The inReach owner had come across an injured hiker and activated his device.
The injured party had suffered a lower-leg injury but was making their way down the Falling Waters Trail. As Conservation Officers monitored the hiking group’s progress, it became clear they were slowing down and would not make it out without assistance so a rescue was initiated.
Members of Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue responded and were able to transport the victim to the trailhead. The victim transported himself from the trailhead to receive medical aid.
The victim was identified as Lawrence Duell, 57, of Wells, Maine. Duell injured his leg while hiking between Lincoln Mountain and Mount Lafayette. Duell was well prepared for a winter hike.
