CLAREMONT, NH – The public boat access facility along the Connecticut River known as Ashley Ferry, in Claremont, NH, will be closed for three days during the week of June 18 through June 22. During the closure, the Department will dredge the ramp area to remove accumulated river silt. The exact date cannot be determined at this time until the extent of an oil leak and repair of the Department’s excavator can be completed.
During the three days, a turbidity curtain (a plastic shield placed into the water) will be installed and remain in place, completely blocking the end of the ramp. This equipment traps silt and clay floating in the water as a result of the dredging, preventing it from entering the main course of the river. There will be no opportunity to launch or retrieve boats during this time period.
NH Fish and Game’s Statewide Public Boat Access Program is funded through boat registration fees, which are combined as match dollars with federal Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration funds to facilitate boat access opportunities in the state. NH Fish and Game’s Facilities Construction and Lands Division acquires land for public water access sites, refurbishes existing sites, and builds new public boat access areas.
