Sandwich, NH – On Saturday, October 24 shortly before 1:30 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a hiker had fallen and suffered a head injury near the summit of Double Head Mountain. The hiker was Akira Morishita, 22, of Boston, MA. Morishita was hiking with three friends. Initially, the injury seemed like it could have been severe, and they phoned 911 for assistance.

Along with Fish and Game Conservations Officers, rescuers from Sandwich, Holderness, Center Harbor, and Ashland Fire Departments responded. He was nearly 2 miles from the trailhead. With the help of his friends, Morishitia was able to gather himself and they began hiking down the trail together. Rescuers met the group on the trail and assisted them back to the trailhead. They arrived shortly before 4:00 p.m., and he was driven from the scene by his friends.
