Hale’s Location, NH – On Sunday, October 25, shortly after 8:00 a.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a man who was rock climbing alone on Whitehorse Ledge had reached a point at which he was no longer comfortable going up or down. He was able to get to a spot where he felt secure and placed a call for assistance.

The climber was William Carron, 30, of Portland, ME. Carron was climbing alone and unroped on a climbing route named Sliding Board. He was approximately 500 feet from the ground.

Along with a Fish and Game Conservation Officer, members of Mountain Rescue Service and North Conway Fire and Rescue responded. Nine climbers from the Mountain Rescue Service quickly organized and worked together to climb to Carron’s location, secure him, and fix ropes back to the base of the cliff. The entire party, including Carron, descended safely and were back on the ground shortly before 10:00 a.m.

The Mountain Rescue Service is a highly skilled volunteer search and rescue organization whose members work hard to maintain the skills and equipment necessary to carry out technical rescues across the state. Anyone can donate to MRS through the New Hampshire Outdoor Council at www.nhoutdoorcouncil.org.
