Twin Mountain, NH – On the afternoon of Saturday, October 10, 2026, rescue personnel worked to evacuate an injured hiker who had slipped and fallen on the Mt. Willard Trail.
At approximately 3:25 p.m., Raelynn Plattner, 57, of Joelton, TN, slipped off a rock approximately 0.3 miles up the Mt. Williard Trail from the trailhead along Route 302. As a result of the slip, Plattner sustained a significant lower leg injury that did not allow her to bear weight on the affected leg. Following the injury, one of Plattner’s daughters ran down the trail to an area of cell phone service and made a call for help.
As a result of the call, New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers and members of the Twin Mountain Fire Department responded to the scene. First aid was provided to Plattner in the woods and then she was carried in a litter to the trailhead. The rescue party arrived safely at the trailhead at approximately 5:20 p.m. Once roadside, Plattner opted to travel by personal vehicle to Littleton Regional Hospital for further evaluation and treatment of her injuries.
Authorities would like to remind hikers to prepare for winter conditions when venturing out in the White Mountains. Temperatures have been consistently below freezing at night, and the high peaks are already white with snow. Whether it’s a quick walk or a multi-day trip, please prepare to deal with real cold in the event of an emergency.
