Jaffrey, NH – At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers were made aware of an injured hiker on Mount Monadnock. Monadnock State Park staff were able to quickly access the hiker and render aid. Additional park staff, multiple New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers, members of the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, and good Samaritans arrived on scene to help.
The victim was identified as Neathery Brenzel, 53, of Brookline, MA. Brenzel suffered a serious but non-life-threatening injury near the summit of the mountain. Rescuers worked to carry Brenzel to the base of the mountain and arrived at approximately 4:30 p.m. Brenzel and her hiking companions were well prepared for a day of hiking on the mountain.
NH Fish and Game’s response for this rescue was paid for with monies from the NH Hike Safe Card and the Search and Rescue Fund. No hunting, fishing, or trapping license fees are used for search and rescue missions in New Hampshire.
