North Conway, NH – On Monday, July 20, shortly before 4:00 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a hiker was having difficulty near the summit of Whitehorse Ledge. The hiker was Claire Divito, 73, of Lincoln, NH. She was nearly 2.0 miles from the trailhead at the time.
Along with Fish and Game Conservation Officers, members of North Conway Fire and Rescue and Lakes Region Search and Rescue responded. Rescuers were able to rehydrate her and after rest she was able to hike out on her own with some assistance. She arrived back at the trailhead shortly before 7:30 p.m.
North Conway Fire and Rescue accepts tax-deductible donations to fund rescue operations. Lakes Region Search and Rescue is a highly skilled volunteer search and rescue organization whose members work hard to maintain the skills and equipment necessary to carry out rescues across the state. Anyone can donate to LRSAR through the New Hampshire Outdoor Council at www.nhoutdoorcouncil.org. Outdoor enthusiasts are also encouraged to purchase a Hike Safe card at www.wildnh.com/safe. The card helps support Fish and Game search and rescue activities. For safe hiking tips and a list of essential gear, visit hikesafe.com.
