Pittsburg, NH – On the afternoon of Saturday, January 24, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Brandon Roe, 38, of Hanson, Massachusetts, was operating his snowmobile on Primary Trail 146 in Pittsburg. Roe lost control of his snowmobile while negotiating a downhill left-hand turn. Roe was subsequently thrown from his machine over a steep embankment and sustained injuries in the crash. Immediate aid was rendered by his riding companions and bystanders who came upon the crash. Due to poor cell service, a satellite personal locater beacon (PLB) was used to notify first responders. A riding companion also rode to a nearby business where an additional 911 call was made and provided better details of the crash.

A response from Pittsburg Fire Department, 45th Parallel EMS, Pittsburg Police Department and a Conservation Officer was initiated. Based on the severity of injuries reported, a DHART helicopter was requested by responding personnel. Pittsburg Fire Department utilized their rescue snowmobiles to access the remote crash location. Roe was transported from the scene by snowmobile to an awaiting 45th Parallel EMS Ambulance that was staged roadside. He was then transported by ambulance to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook and then ultimately transported by DHART Helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

This crash is still under investigation, however inexperience and unreasonable speed for the existing conditions appear to be factors in the crash. Conservation Officers would like to use this incident to remind snowmobile operators to always operate in a reasonable and prudent manner for existing trail conditions and with regard for actual and potential hazards.
