Harts Location, NH – On Sunday, May 19, 2024, shortly before 2:00 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a hiker was injured on the Arethusa Falls Trail. The hiker was identified as Ian Ramsay, 68, of Beaconsfield, QC, Canada. Ransay was hiking alone when he injured his hip a short distance from the falls. He was unable to bear weight on his injured leg. There is little or no cell service in the area but passing hikers were able to place a call for help. Ramsay was nearly 1.5 miles from the trailhead.

Along with Conservation Officers, members of the Bartlett/Jackson Ambulance Service, Bartlett Fire Department, and Lakes Region Search and Rescue responded. Rescuers placed Ramsay in a litter and carried him out to the trailhead. He arrived back at the trailhead shortly before 6:00 p.m. and was driven from the scene by Bartlett/Jackson Ambulance to the Memorial Hospital in North Conway.

Lakes Region Search and Rescue is a volunteer search and rescue organization whose members work hard to maintain the skills and equipment necessary to carry out technical rescues across the state.
