Albany, NH – On Tuesday, November 9 shortly after 3:00 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a hiker was suffering from a hip injury on the Champney Falls Trail. Joseph Mira, 72, of Warwick, RI, was descending the trail when he tripped and injured his hip. He was about a half mile from the trailhead. There is no cell phone service in the area. A passing hiker continued out and drove nearly ten miles before she was able to alert personnel from the US Forest Service of the incident.
When Conservation Officers arrived on scene they found that additional passing hikers had stopped and rendered assistance to Mira. They were able to work together to assist him and were nearly to the trailhead. He arrived at the trailhead shortly after 4:00 p.m. and was taken from the scene by Conway Ambulance to the Memorial Hospital for treatment.
