Sandwich, NH – On Thursday, May 13, shortly after 1:30 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a hiker was injured on the Wentworth Trail in the area of Mt. Israel. The hiker was identified as Danielle Ratheun of Loudon, NH. Ratheun was hiking with a friend when she injured her ankle just below the summit. The pair was carrying basic first aid equipment and treated the injury. Ratheun attempted to bear weight on her ankle but was unable to continue so a call for help was placed. Rescuers from Sandwich, Tamworth, Moultonborough, Center Harbor, and Holderness Fire Departments responded along with members of Lakes Region Search and Rescue, Stewarts Ambulance, and Conservation Officers. Rescuers placed Ratheun in a litter and carried her two miles to the trailhead, arriving shortly after 5:30 p.m.
