Thornton, NH – At approximately 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department was notified of an injured hiker on the Welch and Dickey Trail in Thornton. The hiker, identified as Susan Sherry, 67, of Nahant, MA, had been hiking with friends when she fell and suffered a lower leg injury while descending the Dickey side of the loop.
The injury occurred on a section of ledge located just over a mile from the trailhead. Unable to continue hiking due to her injury, members of Sherry’s hiking party called for help. First responders from Campton-Thornton Fire & Rescue, Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety, a Conservation Officer from the NH Fish & Game Department, and volunteers from the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team (PVSAR) arrived to provide assistance. Rescuers hiked to Sherry’s location, provided first aid, placed her in a litter, and then carried her down to the trailhead arriving safely at around 6:00 p.m.
