ASHLAND, NH – On Saturday, February 8, New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers were called to the scene of a snowmobile crash on the Squam Lake Connector Trail at approximately 9:45 p.m. in Ashland, near US Route 3. Eric Shamberger, 48, of Ashland, NH, collided with a tree causing his snowmobile to flip, ejecting him from his machine. Shamberger sustained serious injuries and was transported by Plymouth Fire and Rescue to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth. After further evaluation and treatment he was later flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon by DHART helicopter. Ashland Police Department, Ashland Fire Department, and Plymouth Fire Department also responded and provided assistance on scene.
The crash investigation is still on going, but at this time alcohol and speed are not believed to be contributing factors. Conservation Officers want to remind Snowmobilers to be safe and vigilant when riding. Expect early season riding conditions. For more information about safe riding please visit www.ride.nh.gov.
