CONCORD, NH – Registration is now open for a special turkey hunting program co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department and your local National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) chapter. These workshops, offered across the state, are designed for new or novice turkey hunters in preparation for the 2020 spring turkey hunting season, which opens on May 1 and runs through May 31.

The workshop is dedicated to teaching you everything you need to know to have a safe and successful turkey hunt, including choosing a shotgun and ammunition, scouting for birds, how and when to call, what gear you will need, the regulations that apply to turkey hunting, and much more.

The second component of the learning experience is one-on-one mentoring. Each chapter of the NWTF has a limited number of mentors available to help you on your first turkey hunt, and you may have the chance to step into the field with an experienced turkey-hunting mentor to hunt during the spring season. Once registered, please contact the lead instructor listed to be added to the mentor list. Most mentors live within an hour of the event location. Please select the course offered closest to your home. The NWTF will make every effort to accommodate all requests for field mentoring.

To register, you must be at leats18 years of age by the event date to attend alone. Participants ages 12-18 may attend with a registered parent or guardian. (Both must register for the event and both must be first-time turkey hunters.) The cost is $45 per person to participate. The fee includes materials, instruction, at least one turkey call to take home for practice, and a one-year membership to the National Wild Turkey Federation. Once registered, payment must be made by check payable to NWTF-NH. Send payment to NH Fish and Game c/o Hunter Education, 11 Hazen Drive Concord, NH, 03301. If your payment is not received within 2 weeks, your spot will be forfeited.

Registrations are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis, and space is limited. All participants must register online. Scouting and hunting will be done in your area so please choose the workshop closest to your home.
