Stratford, NH – Shortly before 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020, multiple agencies received a report of a man involved in a snowmobile crash on Nash Stream Road, also known as Corridor 5. The initial 911 call was placed by members of his riding party immediately following the crash, and their location was given as approximately 6 miles from the trailhead.
Fish and Game Officers, a Northumberland Police Department Officer, Groveton EMS, and Groveton Fire Department personnel responded to the vicinity of the trailhead and rapidly prepared equipment to travel to the scene. Utilizing snowmobiles and an ATV designed for rescue and extrication, the rescue team personnel arrived on scene just before 12:45 p.m. Once on scene, the man was identified as Robert Leblanc, 55, of East Greenwich, RI, and medical staff rendered immediate aid, loading him into a waiting ambulance shortly thereafter. Once in the ambulance, Leblanc was rapidly transported to Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster where he ultimately died from the extensive injuries that he sustained from the crash.
The operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and speed is considered a contributing factor.
