Berlin, NH – Shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019, a man sustained serious injuries when he flipped the UTV that he was operating in Jericho Mountain State Park. Gerard Melillo, 59, of Carteret, NJ, was operating a UTV on a one-way trail known as Holt’s Revenge when the incident occurred. The crash happened when Melillo failed to navigate a turn, leading the machine to crash into the ditch alongside the trail. Once the vehicle came to rest, members of his riding party came to his assistance placing a 911 call.

Upon receiving word of the incident, Berlin Fire Department, Berlin EMS, and a Conservation Officer responded to the scene. Due to the extent of his injuries and the nature of crash, he was transported away from the scene by truck to a waiting ambulance near the entrance of the park. Melillo was transported by ambulance to Androscoggin Valley Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The operator was wearing a helmet and a seatbelt at the time of the crash; speed is considered the primary cause of the crash.
