Berlin, NH – At approximately 5:42 p.m. on Friday August 9, 2019 a 911 call was received for an ATV crash on Holt’s Revenge Trail in Jericho State Park. The caller stated that the victim was not conscious and not breathing.

William Vannett, 59, of Middleborough, Massachusetts, was operating an ATV without a passenger when he failed to navigate a downhill left turn. Vannett and the ATV exited the right side of the trail and dropped over a slight embankment.

A Coos County Sherriff’s Deputy, Berlin Police Officers, Berlin Fire Department, and Berlin EMS responded to the scene along with a Conservation Officer. After the scene was secured and documented, Vannett’s body was transported by Berlin Fire Department’s rescue UTV from the scene to Jericho Lake Road, to the care of Bryant’s Funeral Home in Berlin.

Vannett was an experienced operator wearing a helmet and eye protection at the time of the crash; however, he sadly succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash. The Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted in the investigation and foul play was ruled out.

This crash is still under investigation; however, at this time speed appears to be a primary factor.
