PINKHAM’S GRANT, NH – New Hampshire Fish & Game Conservation Officers responded to a report of a female hiker who was suffering from exhaustion and other possible medical conditions on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail at approximately 8:00 p.m. Thursday night.
The hiker, identified as Charlene Schroeder of Lacrosse, WI, was descending via Tuckerman Ravine Trail when she became too exhausted to continue. This incident took place approximately .4 miles from the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center (PNVC). Members of Schroeder’s hiking party reported the incident to PNVC.
As the call was being made to Fish & Game, a group of AMC volunteers along with members of Schroeder’s hiking party brought up a litter to Schroeder and started carrying her down to the trail. As the first responding Conservation Officer was arriving, the volunteer rescue crew was arriving at the visitor center.
Schroeder was evaluated by EMS personnel from Gorham Ambulance, but ultimately refused further medical treatment and transportation to a local hospital.
