ALTON, NH — The Downing’s Landing public boat access facility in Alton, NH, will be closing beginning late on Sunday, July 21, to complete drilling assessments of soil depths and quality along the shore bank. The ramp is expected to be closed for one day on Monday July 22, weather permitting, and will reopen on Tuesday July 23. If there is a threat of severe weather or lightning on July 22, drilling will be curtailed and the closure extended to include Wednesday July 23. This is part of the planned rehabilitation of the Downing’s Landing facility set to begin on August 5. Please check the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Statewide Public Boat Access Program’s web page at www.fishnh.com/access for any schedule updates.
During the drilling, the entire facility will be closed to the public to ensure a safe and effective work site. The ramp will be closed and there will be no opportunity to launch or retrieve motorized boats, sail boats, canoes, kayaks, or other self- propelled watercraft during this time period. The parking area for the ramp will also be closed to the public and there will be no fishing from the shore.
NH Fish and Game’s Statewide Public Boat Access Program is funded through boat registration fees, which are combined as match dollars with federal Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration funds to facilitate boat access opportunities in the state. Fish and Game’s Facilities Construction and Lands Division acquires land for public water access sites, refurbishes existing sites, and builds new public boat access areas.
