Woodstock, NH – A search for a missing hiker in the vicinity of Mt. Moosilauke has failed to turn up any clues as to his whereabouts. Officials say that Arun Anand, 21, of Collegeville, PA, was on a Dartmouth College sponsored hike on Saturday when he failed to show up at The Moosilauke Ravine Lodge. The NH Fish and Game Department was notified of the missing hiker at approximately 8:00 p.m. last night and organized an overnight search comprised of Conservation Officers, volunteers from the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue (PEMI SAR), New England K-9 Search & Rescue (NEK9), and Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team (UVWRT).
A more thorough search was conducted throughout the day utilizing the same volunteer organizations plus several Dartmouth College students and the newly formed Lakes Region Search and Rescue Team. All told approximately 50 searchers scoured the woodlands around the point that Anand was last seen. In addition to the ground searchers, Fish and Game utilized the DHART helicopter and the Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter to conduct aerial searches of the area.
The search was suspended for the night and will continue in the morning. The NH Fish and Game Department would like to state its appreciation for the concerns and offers to help from community members, but do ask them to refrain from driving to the site.
