CONCORD, NH — At 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers were notified of two lost hikers in Swanzey who did not have lights with them. Gibson Chase-Pinkney, 28, of Keene and Adam Hugh, 24, of Richmond began their hike that evening at around 5:00 p.m. The pair had planned to hike a .7 mile section of trail which they had hiked before, however they became lost after dark. They made a call to 911 that provided GPS coordinates for their location. A team of Keene Fire Department personnel located Chase-Pinkney and Hugh below the summit of West Hill at approximately 10:34 p.m. The pair was transported out of the woods on UTVs at 11:30 p.m. and both refused medical attention.

The Swanzey Police Department, Swanzey Fire Department, Keene Fire Department, and Winchester Fire Department all responded to the search.

New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers would like to remind hikers to prepare for the unexpected by leaving adequate time to reach intended destinations and by carrying essential equipment such as maps, flashlights, food, water, and extra layers of clothing.
