BARTLETT, N.H. — On Thursday, April 11 at approximately 7:00 AM New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a hiker was injured on the Mt. Kearsarge Trail in Bartlett. The hiker was Julie Wyman, 22 of Spencer, MA. Wyman was hiking with her friend when she injured her knee just below the summit. Wyman was able to treat her injury and begin walking slowly back down the trail. She was nearly 3.0 miles from the trailhead.
Along with Conservation Officers members of the U.S. Forest Service and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue responded. Rescuers met Wyman and assisted her down the trail. She arrived back at the trailhead shortly before 2:00 PM and was driven from the scene by her family.
While Wyman and her friend were well prepared for the conditions it is important to note that winter conditions to include deep snow and ice are present in the mountains are likely to persist for the next several weeks Anyone venturing out should be equipped with micro-spikes, snowshoes and extra layers.
