Sandown, NH – On Sunday, April 7, 2019, NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to a serious All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) accident on the Rockingham Recreational Rail Trail in Sandown.

At approximately 9:00 AM, Robert Wilson, 46, of Billerica, MA, received serious injuries when he struck a gate on the Rockingham Recreational Trail. Wilson failed to navigate through an opening in the gate and was thrown from his ATV during the collision. Wilson was riding with a group of friends who were quickly able to call for assistance from emergency personnel.

Upon receiving notification of the accident, a NH Fish and Game Conservation Officer, Sandown Fire and EMS, and the Sandown Police Department responded to the location of the accident. Wilson, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was transported to a nearby landing zone and evacuated by helicopter to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, for treatment of his injuries.

The accident is still under investigation, but based on the preliminary investigation it appears that speed was a contributing factor in the collision. NH Fish and Game would like to remind all riders to drive at an appropriate speed for their skill level and for the conditions of the trails.
