Gorham – Shortly before noon on Saturday, February 16, a woman sustained injuries when she tipped the snowmobile that she was operating onto herself on Mill Street. Daniela Fomin, 47, of Swampscott, MA was traveling on a section of Corridor 19 when she rolled over her snowmobile in an attempt to traverse a small hill. Family members immediately rushed to her aid, while calling for emergency assistance at that location. Upon receiving word of the incident, Gorham EMS, Gorham PD and Conservation Officers responded to the scene. Due to the nature of her injury, she was transported to Androscoggin Valley Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The operator was wearing a helmet, and inexperience is considered the primary cause of the crash.
Low and Burbank’s Grant – At approximately 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 16, a woman sustained serious injuries when she lost control of her snowmobile on a sharp turn on Jefferson Notch Road. Michelle Brouillard, 54, of Attleboro, MA was operating northbound on Jefferson Notch Road when she failed to navigate a sharp turn, resulting in her collision with a large tree. Members of her group were able to make an emergency call for help shortly thereafter, while members of her party and a passersby assisted her back to the trail.
Conservation officers were notified along with members of Twin Mountain FD and a response was initiated. Utilizing a tracked ATV, members of Twin Mountain FD were able to transport her out of the woods to a waiting ambulance. Because of the potentially life-threatening injury sustained by Brouillard, she was transported to Littleton Regional Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
