Gorham, NH – In the mid-afternoon of Thursday, January 10, 2019, a woman and a man sustained serious injuries after crashing the snowmobiles they were operating on Smitty’s Trail.

At approximately 2:00 PM, William Jones, 36, of Levittown, NY, lost control of the snowmobile he was operating while navigating a turn. Jones attempted to get clear of the snowmobile as it left the trail in an effort to avoid more serious injury. Operating in the same group of snowmobilers, Casey Taylor, 19, of Lindenhurst, NY, also failed to navigate the same turn shortly after Jones had crashed. She and her snowmobile then collided with the snowmobile operated by Jones before coming to rest. A member of the riding party that they were in then made an emergency call to 911.

Upon receiving word of the incident, Gorham Fire Department, Gorham EMS, the Berlin Fire Department, and a Conservation Officer responded to a trail access point in Gorham. Utilizing tracked side-by-sides they responded to the scene of the crash and transported Jones and Taylor to awaiting ambulances. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were ultimately transported to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for further evaluation and treatment.

Both operators were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
